Dear Parents/Guardians,

Welcome to our newest Courtland Cougar students and staff, and welcome back to those returning to Courtland. We are so excited about this upcoming school year! Staff members have been busy planning and preparing for your arrival to provide a successful start to the school year. We have had another year of construction crews over the summer upgrading our parking lot and tarmac. We are excited to have a safer route for buses and bikes, as well as accessible access to our field via a new ramp. Please continue to park on surrounding streets if you drop off or pick up your student, and refrain from using the school lot during entry and exit times.

In addition to the meaningful work students do in the classroom, we strongly encourage all students to get involved in activities outside of the classroom. There are a wide variety of activities, teams and clubs addressing many interests. Getting involved at Courtland is a great way to meet new friends and develop new interests and skills.

Your child’s first day includes orientation activities with the whole school, with their homeroom, as well as within their rotary schedules. Activities include a number of opportunities for students to get to know their classmates, teachers, and their own learning styles and needs!

  • Lockers will be assigned on our first day, so we encourage students to have a lock ready for use as soon as possible as students will be expected to use the lockers daily.
  • The Board policy has changed, and Chromebooks will no longer be automatically assigned. If you would like your student to have a Chromebook, please fill out the online forms to request one from the Board. All students will still be required to sign the Responsible Use forms before acquiring any device.

We look forward to seeing parents, guardians and students at our first of the year Family Night Open House on Wednesday, September 9th from 5:30 to 6:30 pm.

We will start in the gym for family orientation, followed by networking with staff. We hope you can stop by to see us.

We will also be looking for anyone interested in supporting our school council in a variety of capacities. Our first virtual meeting is Wednesday, October 14th at 5:00 pm. Don’t forget to subscribe to our school website for regular updates (crl.wrdsb.ca) and check out our community calendar there for information.

As per Ministry mandates, students will not use a personal mobile device during the school day. It is expected that phones are off and away. Additionally, students will not use, share or sell vape, nicotine and/or tobacco products or illicit drugs on school property.

Our goal at Courtland is to do whatever we can to ensure that your child is safe, feels welcome and has every opportunity to learn while in our care. We hope that you will partner with our wonderful and talented educators in order to provide the very best experience for your child while they are with us. Please do not hesitate to contact staff members with any questions or concerns that might arise throughout the school year.  You can find the staff list at crl.wrdsb.ca, which should help you find your student’s teachers via email, or you can call the main office. We are looking forward to working with our students and families and recognize and value the importance of partnering with the community to best meet the needs of all of our students.

As staff serving this community, we look forward to continuing our learning journey together with you and your children throughout the 2026-2027 school year.
